Still better than his father. There has been talk that Canada might use that time (after the death of the Queen but before the inauguration of the next monarch) to drop the monarchy, but it's been widely disagreed with, even in among circles that don't like the monarchy. I don't see it happening either. At this point it's less about the actually monarchy, but the benefits or history in belonging to the commonwealth.
Did you know that there are many countries in the world without a Canadian embassy? And in situations like that you are to travel to a British embassy and they will take care of you. There are times when being part of a large close family does benefit us in real ways.
I predict, there will be an English monarch on our bills for a while.

Second that...I'd rather Canada stay on great terms with as many countries as possible.
Take a plane from Sydney to Los Angeles one time with a bunch of Aussies and you'll never be as happy to be Canadian as when you land and don't have to stand in line with 3 747/A380's full of people to have your visa checked. A flash of the passport to US customs and they'll let you in the American passport line no problem.
