I envisioned Loki as more of a maniacal-evil-genius-type villian. One without much brawn, but still very clever and dangerous. To me, the film didn't meet that image. Loki's plan was simply to open a window to another world, for an invading army. It was too in your face, too obvious of a plot. I was hoping for something more deceptive. I know that is not a valid criticism of the film, just how I pictured Loki.
Anyways I thought it was one of the superhero movies I have seen. Right up there with Batman and the Watchman, but of course very different.
Edit: I liked Yeah_Baby's comparison of Loki to Saruman in the best villains thread. Maybe I just had Loki pegged completely incorrectly. He's just a tool

but I find that disappointing.
