You're taking the bat out of one of your hottest and best hitters hand, to try and play for a single run in the 3rd inning. The probability of scoring a run actually goes down by giving the team an out. Of course moving the runner ahead would be more desirable then a double play but you can't manage an AL game that way any time a runner gets on 1st. You are welcome to your own opinion however
