She used a work email to disclose her password to her personal email. Her employer owns all content in her employee email so she essentially disclosed her password and email to her employer. So upon finding that information looking into her personal email is fine by me. They didn't hack in. They found something in plain site.
The ridiculous thing is this person got there job back after clearly violating HR policies. So much so that other people made complaints about here behaviour with an on Duty officer.

Umm, that's not really how it works. If you have an email in your corporate account with your credit card number in it is your employer now free to go ahead and use that?
