They are both unique, clever films which deserve the praise they receive without the aid of the Batman movies.
In your mind who is actually better than him? If I had to take a guess most would say Danny Boyle, Aronofsky, Fincher, and then mainstay directors like Spielberg, Scorsese, the Coen's, Tarantino, Anderson (both of them), and Jackson.
All good choices, but each of them has had one or two mediocre, movies on their resume. This is in contrast to Nolan who has gone 7 for 7 on movies he has directed. I hate to use rottentomatoes as a way to rate someone, but his average rating of 88% pretty much speaks for itself.

That's a nice long few paragraphs when you could have just writeen "Nolan Fanboy". Prestige was boring with a horrible, rediculous and unbelievable ending. It's NOT an amazing film that's far better than "anything" Hollywood puts out.
Making a claim that the Coen's and Tarantino are main stream just furhter proves the point. Using Rotten Tomatoes just makes you look as dumb as someone quoting a TSN poll. The results come from those who respond and fanboys love their rotten tomotoes.
