^ I'd question you on all fronts. While Memento is probably his best work; Inception, Prestige, and even Insomnia all surpass what we see in Hollywood today. Call it fanboyism or whatever you want, but I liked Insomnia well before he became an acclaimed director, and believe The Prestige and Inception are almost as good as the Batman movies. They are both unique, clever films which deserve the praise they receive without the aid of the Batman movies.

In your mind who is actually better than him? If I had to take a guess most would say Danny Boyle, Aronofsky, Fincher, and then mainstay directors like Spielberg, Scorsese, the Coen's, Tarantino, Anderson (both of them), and Jackson.

All good choices, but each of them has had one or two mediocre, movies on their resume. This is in contrast to Nolan who has gone 7 for 7 on movies he has directed. I hate to use rottentomatoes as a way to rate someone, but his average rating of 88% pretty much speaks for itself.
