He hadn't just got a strikeout - he had just walked Wieters to load the bases. He struck out the guy before that and gave up a hit to his first batter, put 2/3 batters on and then 3/4 to finish up. Made a good pitch to get the K but I think he even ran the count full there too (foggy Saturday morning memory). I thought he looked like he didn't have his best stuff from the get go.
Major oversight on my part - I didn't realize Betimit was a switch hitter so I see the logic statistically, even though I think that statistical analysis alone without reading the situation a little will sink you. You can't just be a slave to the career numbers if a guy looks crappy on a day, which Oliver did.
Hopefully today Alvarez looks as good as he did in the home opener, goes a long way towards stabilizing the rotation.
