While I understand what you are getting at- have you ever been involved in an accident caused by mechanical failure? If so, what is your ratio of mechanical failure to driver error accidents?

Yes, a safer vehicle is safer. It just bugs me that vehicles are being scrapped because they have $1000 worth of front end or suspension issues that are enough to cause them to fail an inspection, but don't mean the vehicle is going to fall apart. Meanwhile we have drivers pass one test when they are 16, and never have to be re-tested.
