If I guess right you are trying to connect to a printer attached to the network and using the Add Printer Wizard in XP.

If yes then on the first page you should select "Local Printer attached to this computer" and deselect the Plug and Play option. (their wording is not very helpful, is it? Network printer in this instance refers to a print queue hosted on a server or shared through another PC)

On the next page either select an existing TCP/IP port if it already exists for that printer, or add a new TCP/IP port.
