I agree that the right call was made. Edmonton, by comparison, decided to bury their line in downtown. Even with their recent expansions, they're still nowhere close to the system that Calgary has. Interestingly, even when/if the train goes under 8th Avenue, 7th Avenue will still be used for some of the lines above ground.
Anyway - about this bridge... I haven't been able to make it down there yet because of a sick baby at home this weekend. I am encouraged to hear that there's a good vibe around the bridge and it seems to becoming a bit of a centrepiece for the area.
