Yeah pretending to be a VOIP app was one way people were trying to get around the background limitation.

I thought part of the battery issues with some apps revolved around the ads, or at least I remember reading that somewhere.

I wish they'd add a timer to the background app services, if I wanted to make an app that woke up once an hour and did something (got your location, checked for a message, whatever) I can't really do that.
