The writers said he was supposed to die, but they couldn't quite fit it in and then they were happy with the results. They said him looking at his burning barn, was well worth it to keep him alive.

Maybe she keeps them well fed, so they are content. Maybe she feeds them plump little children, like Karl. How do they eat plump little children like Karl without lower jaws? I don't know, maybe she has a blender.
