I think they're pretty much the same as any other airline in North America, you'll basically always be asked to pay two things:
1) The 'change fee' - I think Air Canada is $75, which is similar or even less than what most of the U.S. airlines charge.
2) The difference between what the fare cost you when you booked it, and the price of the fare you want *now*.
That second one is what confuses a lot of people.
If your flight cost you $400 when you booked it, and the flight you want now is $700, you'll need to pay the difference of $300. That can be the real killer when it comes to making changes.
