I really would like to hear what a jail broken iPad is so bad at compared to any Android tablet.

Yes, there is no jailbreak yet for iPad 3, but proof of concept is on you tube from MucleNerd. There should be a jail break very soon for a device that just came out Friday.

Retina is no big deal because few apps make use of it? Right now, the most popular app on all devices uses it, a web browser. The other stock apps are upgraded as well, and many more are on the app store. Discounting retina because it makes old apps look bad is really a poor cheap shot. It is progress, and is making tablets better to work with. There really is zero downside to Retina, except a few slightly blurry apps for a few months. Now let's compare that to the fragmentation nightmare that is Android.

Finally, the vailed reference that anyone that uses iOS is green in the world of computing. This is false. I have no idea why there is a device that is so much harder to use, more kludgy, still needs to be rooted, yet is hailed as a device for people in the know. I have a comp sci degree, been an app dev, now I help design enterprise software integrations. Yet I use an iPad. Why? Because my idea of using a tablet is to quickly gain information, not fiddle with hacking a proper email/music app into the system on my Saturday afternoon. I want something that works, and for me the iPad is it.

I don't think I will like Android, any more than you will like iOS. That is fine, to each his own. I just don't like hearing the same falsehoods thrown out every time Apple takes Android out to the cleaners. Fact is Android in the tablet space is behind even further now, and they need to address why that is, or it will continue to be a niche product that only some of the tech savey prefer.
I've used Cydia before and have jailbroken devices for many people. I have no idea where you get the idea that I am implying that iOS users are green users, that was honestly not my intention. I know from this forum that the brightest and most advanced technology and IT users whom I respect a great deal by the knowledge they've displayed are big Apple fans. I'm just glad that there's a place I can send people who want help with their iOS devices that isn't me.

iOS and the entire Apple ecosystem and GUI and industrial design simply are of a style that doesn't sit right with me, jailbroken or otherwise.

For me, a computing experience is akin to listening to music. For everyone, there will be some kinds of music that they simply do not and will never like. It doesn't negate them as genuine forms of artistic expression or quality for others.

I'll take that hit. I set it up for her over about 20 minutes and didn't want to ever touch it again. It's like making me listen to country music. If you knew me in real life, I'd be the guy hanging out with the IBM 5150 with monochrome display over the iPad 3 and it's Retina display (or even any Android device, mine is perpetually broken and I'm not a huge fan) any day. I simply have no interest in such things.
