A friend of mine was trying to bring his wife and kid over for years. It was a huge mess because immigration decided they didn't think their child was their own. They wanted a DNA test to verify his paternity. They took too long approving the data so their medical documents expired and they had to start a bunch of stuff over again.
It all came up because she traveled back to Egypt with her infant but the Egyptian immigration officer in Egypt didn't document the child so Canada figured it was a child smuggling case. They went so far as to get the surveillance footage from the airport showing her with the child but immigration wouldn't accept it.
It was a pretty painful process.
