Just echoing here for the most part. For me the biggest factor was the free online subscription. Followed closely by the blu-ray (at the time I bought it blu-ray players were substantially more than they are now. Third factor was the controller. I hated the xbox controllers (which I have since gotten used to, but still prefer the PS3)

In that case the PS3 has Little Big Planet (1 and 2) which would probably be appealing. I'm not sure what xbox has for exclusive titles for that age group. The sports games like fifa won't be console exclusive.
Also, the Xbox (with 4gb memory, not the 250gb) is on for $129 this week at most places.
