Hmm, let me see...
Before I became a gainfully employed adult who wasn't just working for the summers I had jobs like:
- picking blueberries - that lasted about half a day as the farmer wanted all the berries polished before putting them in the bucket - all for 25 cents a pound!
- working at McDonald's - Not a lot of money to be made but that job taught me what it was like to work hard. When I worked there the food wasn't top notch and it went downhill hard before I resigned fifteen years ago. I can't eat the stuff now so I imagine it runs neck and neck with dog food these days.
- Pumping gas - great outdoor job considering the polluted urban centre aspect. It was nice to be able to run around out in the sun doing full service but it blew my mind how little people know about basic things regarding their cars.
- Shipper/Receiver in a courier warehouse - Dirty, sweaty job but I ended up getting really strong from hauling packages on and off of trucks. I would go to bed exhausted every night and had some of the best sleeps of my life. At the end of the day I always felt satisfied because it was real, honest hard work that paid decently.
- Worked as a host in a restaurant - I hated this job with a passion. I didn't make tips and my hourly wage was no screaming hell either. This job also reinforced my belief that most people are *******s and don't mind treating strangers badly when they are inconvenienced by having something horrible like waiting 10 minutes for a table during a dinner rush.
