My wife made a joke that just maybe more true than I think.
Watch the scene again. You can see when Shane dies, the zombie's take over in flashes. My wife joked that Shane would be a super zombie and call the others to come, right when he got stabbed.
At some point, he dies as a zombie, and it alerts the other zombies.
Maybe there is a zombie conciousness, or maybe with the slow decent Shane went through tied him into their conciousness.
My guess is based on the zombie in the field, and how Shane stared at him, almost with a connection. Then the spasms he was having in several episodes where he lost it.
I think the zombies were in his head for a long time, and maybe his cross over connected them to him enough to attract them. Kind of like the Borg on Star Trek.
Dunno, just a theory.
