Canada must first and foremost protect its own citizens and ensure that newcomers acquire the necessary language skills (and recognition of foreign credentials) before they arrive in the country. Only then can they play a constructive and productive role in Canadian society, instead of becoming a burden on already-overtaxed Canadians, as 77 per cent are today at a cost to the taxpayer of $16 to $23 billion a year (which doesn’t include the immense cost of dealing with the consequences of the crimes some of these people commit in Canada).
Immigration’s prime objective is to benefit the host country, and not those who come here. If they benefit, too, great, but if they refuse to pull their weight and do what’s required of them, they should be asked to leave, rather than hung around Canadians’ necks like a big fat albatross.
