The real key for Portland is Baertchi IMO. They were 1st overall in the WHL when Baertchi got call up and have lost a few close game without him. I know they have a significantly better record with him in the line-up than without him in the line-up earlier in the season too.
Also, to whoever said they are 3rd in the WHL, they are actually second with 100 points. The other division leader is 3rd with 97 points. So long as Portland can get by the Americans, they probably have a decent shot at the Memorial cup.
Edit. My bad. I didn't check the eastern conference. I meant 2nd in the WHL western conference. They are indeed 3rd overall in the WHL, but they also play in the toughest division in the WHL IMO.
