On the other hand, it also means that Portland definitely are not letting Batum get away this offseason, which might have been a possibility if they were keeping Wallace long-term. Nets are desperate for a big move that will convince Deron Williams to stay, and honestly I don't think Gerald Wallace is a big enough move.
Interesting aside to the Dwight Howard story: after Howard said yesterday that he was going to renounce his ETO and commit to Orlando for next season, his agent Dan Fegan came out and said that this was not the case and that Howard hadn't understood the full ramifications of this move. Today, Howard confirms that he is indeed waiving his ETO, and according to ESPN the contract amendment is going ahead without Fegan signing off. I'm reading this as Fegan thinking he could control Howard and force him into free agency, and is pissed that his client is doing what he thinks is right.
