Flames rookie enjoys living NHL fairy tale

“I’d like not to have to send him back to Portland,” Calgary Flames head coach Brent Sutter said Tuesday night. “But unfortunately, the rules are the rules.”

“That was crazy tonight,” a grinning Baertschi said in the jubilant Flames dressing room. “Just awesome, the crowd and everything. When I scored the goal in Minnesota, it was just quiet. Nobody was cheering. Scoring a goal down here, it’s just so special.

“I really like the fire by the Jumbotron up there. That’s really exciting.”

“He’s been awesome,” said centre Matt Stajan. “There’s no other way to put it. You could tell, since he scored the first goal, that he’s really come on. Then he scored that second goal today.

“Man, he was flying out there in the second half of the game. He was making plays. He’s in on the forecheck. You know, he’s a smart player with patience. I think we’ve got a special player coming up in the system, and we’re seeing it first-hand right now.”
