'Canes let one get away

Despite the opportunities the Hurricanes just couldn’t get it done as they let 2 points slip through their grasp.

The Hurricanes came out with some jump as they faced off against the dangerous Penguins on Wednesday. The power play was flexing it’s muscles as the scored two of the three early goals by way of their special teams unit, but as the game went on the power play lost it’s luster and became to faulted.

Frantisek Kaberle opened the scoring with a power play goal in the first but Penguins Jaroslav Spacek and Markus Naslund responded with goals of their own as the Home team took a 2-1 lead into the 1st intermission. Once again the Hurricanes came out of the gate flying as Mike Komisarek tied the game up at two till the ‘Canes power play took the lead as Rick Nash slid the puck past Ed Belfour and pushing the Hurricanes into the lead. With the lead the Hurricanes seem to tighten up on their game and although given opportunity after opportunity on the powerplay the ‘Canes just couldn’t put the Penguins away. Till eventually the tight play finally caught up as the Penguins took advantage of a careless high sticking penalty by Nash as Forsberg, Chelios and Kovalchuk made a beautiful tick-tack-toe passing play and tied the game up at 3 all. Shortly afterwards Mathieu Dandenault slapped a high shot passed the lifeless Hurricanes as the Penguins finished off the game with a 5-3 victory and a 9 point lead over the struggling ‘Canes.
