Not that I'm trying to take sides, but until we know more its impossible to judge the possible outcomes to any court marshal.
We know that this guy served multiple tours in Iraq and at least one tour in Afghanistan over about the last 10 years, and unlike Canada where they limited tours to 6 months, IIRC the average tour of duty in Iraq was 12 to 15 months, so this guy was almost constantly deployed.
We all know that Iraq and Afghanistan can be a sh%t show for a deployed soldier because of the nature of the wars and fighting an insurgency movement.
These wars are similar or in a way probably have a bigger effect on these soldiers then Vietnam, mainly because the U.S. Army is a all volunteer army, not made up by conscripts who don't want to be there.
We know that PTSD is a terrible thing that can emotionally cripple a soldier for life.
Until we know what this guys state of mind is, I think its a little unfair to call him a psycho. This isn't an average ordinary action like a guy shooting up a school. This is a guy that at some point could have been an exceptionally good soldier (based on his rank, reaching a ranking of Staff Sergant isn't easy)
