Molten Core was fun albeit requiring far too large of a group to be a sensible raid. The last really challenging raid was Sunwell and that was truly fun. After this gear became very easy to acquire and Blizzard over compensated to cater for the casual player base. It's a fine line to walk when you're wanting to reward the hardcore player base and keep the casual ones interested. Oh well, fond memories.
TLDR: Used to be a cool game

I think that was a smart move by Blizzard - if the difficulty of the end game stayed the same I bet the user base would have dwindled a lot faster than it has. I think I heard that 5% of people experienced original Naxx? That's a crazy low % for devlopers to spend a shed load of time and money on to have no one play. Not too mention - casual players got bored fast of not being able to try end game content. When that makes up 90% of your population, you have to adapt.
