My interpretation is that Shane is feeling more and more isolated. The lone walker was Shane looking at a (future) representation of himself.
I think it had significance on where Shane is going. Having that talk with Rick, he can stay, but his girl, kid, and unborn child isn't his anymore (or at least Rick said so).
The guy acts and feels no better than a lone walker right now. Really good scene, and not one I expected from this show. It was very deep when I saw it.
Then again, maybe it had no meaning... Who knows.
