Exactly why the dog's fate once taken shouldn't have been in the hands of the owners. I'm sure they made their decision so the dog would've harm anyone again, but any realistic scenario where the dog is adopted would've had an negligible chance of the dog being alone with a baby again. It was a decision based on emotion and not reason (and understandably so).
Now you get the unintended consequence of other dogs losing their homes because of it. I'm sure most animal control experts could've seen this coming and should've been the ones making the decisions.
