Sabres Win Another Close One
Outshoot Lightning by fair margin, yet win by one
Sabres continue to squeeze out the wins, usually by one goal, as they are now 8-2 in their last 10 after beating T Bay 3-2.
Looooob got a little fancy mixing the lines around before this game, and it was almost too much...still the top line with Smolinski and Prospal and --for this night at least--Fedotenko continued to get the job done, Prospal scored twice. The 4th line with Riku Hahl, Sami Pahlsson and CPHL allstar Grant Marshall scored the other goal. The 2nd and 3rd lines struggled and will likely be juggled again.
It was a curious , penalty filled, affair, at one point in the 3rd the Sabres took 6 straight minors in 5 minutes:
PENALTIES: N. HAGMAN LIG (HIGHSTICKING, Major) 02:24, M. HOLMQVIST LIG (UNSPORTSMANLIKE-CONDUCT, Minor) 03:52, B. MORROW SAB (ROUGHING, Minor) 03:52, B. SMOLINSKI SAB (CHARGING, Minor) 05:21, S. PAHLSSON SAB (CROSS-CHECKING, Minor) 05:59, A. MILLER SAB (BOARDING, Minor) 07:16, M. LECLERC SAB (BOARDING, Double Minor) 09:19, G. JOHNSON LIG (ROUGHING, Minor) 12:29, C. KILGER LIG (HOOKING, Minor) 14:42, M. GARON LIG (CHARGING, Double Minor) 17:32 (Served by Mike Weaver), C. KILGER LIG (BOARDING, Minor) 18:05, B. MORROW SAB (HIGHSTICKING, Minor) 18:05
But they weathered the storm
Sabres stay in 7th, 3 points up on 9th. Next up is an intriguing home and home with the upstart Winnipeg Jets
