I would like to play it again. I won a battle I had no business being in and it saved and jumped me right into the next battle. I couldn't re-do any battles to gain enough EP to level up as I was forced to play the second battle. All I could do was abandon the game or start over.

I really liked FFT - until I hit the same thing you did. I must have tried to win 20+ times before giving up and never playing the game again.
The game is super punishing if you just want to pick it up and play it without planning your entire playthrough. If you screw up a character, you're boned and might as well restart.
