It isn't without risks. I spent a year of my life stumbling around in a legally blind state, and I almost needed a cornea transplant after severe corneal haze post-PRK. Fortunately, that dissipated over a span of years, but my eyesight is still somewhat worse than before surgery.
Go for the best surgeon you can, and ensure they have the most up-to-date equipment.
