Sounds like a pyramid scheme to me.
I sat trough a presentation for a company that sold long distance plans. You were given a small amount of commision for people you managed to sell long distance plans to. You were given more money for sellers you managed to recruit.
If there's a genuine product and you are getting commision from that, then yes it's more legit. If the money comes from a buy-in that new recruits pay, then it's a pyramid scam. The line can be pretty blurred sometimes.
