I've run both the Melissa's half and 10 km many times . . . . . its actually extremely crowded. The Half is fun out on the Banff Golf Course but not much fun at all once you get thousands of people going both directions in back of the Cave N' Basin in the latter part of the race. Ditto the 10 km.
Melissa's is kind of a destination event you should do at least once - and everyone does - but the Rocky Mountain Half in Canmore in early September is probably a more fun event with the same scenery.
