There is definitely lag and you get this on expensive software on the PC as well. You need a very powerful and expensive ADC and good ASIO to deal with this stuff.
So I bought Rocksmith for the PS3 tonight for $69. It's a cool concept and I'm glad someone has finally figured out how to do this for the mainstream without needing a fancy pick-up or an expensive equipment. The song selection is pretty mundane though and quite disappointing. I guess that's the problem with all music type games is that it will only satisfy one segment of the crowd. I'm disappointed that unlike guitar hero which seemed to have a good balance between classic 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s rock of various genres...this game seems mostly stuck in 90s-2000s alternative which is totally not my scene.
The song selection has really disappointed me. I guess I should have checked it out first but I guess it's a good thing to have and it's probably the most fun I've ever had in a music game even if I'm not totally into the tracks represented.
It's a good learning tool but the song selection sucks and how they arrange most of the songs is boring as hell for someone who already knows how to play. The good thing is that unlike guitar hero, you can actually go off and do rhythm and riff and improvise around whatever they present to you, as long as you do hit the notes that do show up on time.
The other good thing is the different amp modelling options etc. that they provide seems to sound quite nice so it's a decent replacement for having a whole amp setup for beginners as the $69 the game costs is way cheaper than even buying the cheapest modelling amp!
