EU does get worse as it goes along, the Jedi Academy series which leads to the Rise of Daala reduces the Empire to clown proportions, and most of the other EU books are supervillian superweapon stupidity to the max.

The best books of the EU are the old republic books, the Bane series, and the books that take place during the rise of Palpatine. The Dark Lord trilogy which chronical the fall and rise of Vader over three books including Revenge of the Sith still stand as the best written series of the EU with the Bane books as a close second.

However the recent Dath Plageous book that was just released was excellent.

I have a lot of trouble reading the Yuuzghan (sp) and Legacy of the Force series.
