I find that if you accept both sets of movies for what they are, you won't be nearly as dissapointed as you were say in 1999. To me, there is still parts of the prequels that are just as memorable as the OT.
Movie theatre technology I feel has also improved drastically, at least in my experience. The difference between seeing TPM in a small dusty, independent theatre with small by todays standards screen, as opposed to seeing it on a brand new state of the art theatre set up of today, is night and day also.
The visuals were superb last night.
