Default Flyers GM on the hot seat

Philadelphia - Losses are piling up and Schum has no answer. That is the story of Flyers 2011-2012 season. The biggest payroll in the league and they only have an 8 point cushion on the 9th place Habs (who are a bigger disappointment).

The downward spiral that started last year with a game 7 loss in the Eastern Finals and many questionable moves in the off-season including the firing of then head coach Cory Clouston has the management questioning if Joe Schum is still the right man for this job.

"Schum has always shown the ability to build a good roster but also has never won a CPHL championship and our struggles this year aren't helping his case." Said Team President Eric Lindros.

The recent trading of Cam Ward out of Philly has had a negative impact in the locker room. Ward was the longest serving Flyer and a leader in the room. No one is allowed to wear the "C" in Philadelphia as the GM never handed out the letters and now in these tough times the players are looking around the room for someone else to step up.

Recent losses to teams like the Flames, Thrashers and the Capitals (thats right, your roster sucks) don't help the GM's chances.

"Well, you look around the league and big name teams like the Wild and the Ducks aren't doing much better, maybe those GMs should be on the hot seat as well? Not to mention the guy in Florida, he promised his fan base playoffs this year and they are the worst team in the league. How can you honestly be worse than the Blues? that's right Edmonton, I'm talking to you as well. " Schum, when told of Lindros' comments

Sim chemistry has always been difficult to generate and you can argue the Flyers had it before the GM went nuts and traded away guys like Toews and Getzlaf for downgrades.

"Chemistry is ever so random, who knows I could've ended up with the new guys gelling as well. Look at Islanders and Bolts for instance in the East, those guys fluked out and have been sitting on the sides enjoying their teams success all year. I totally get the "if all top teams win than there would be no point of playing for the bottom feeders" argument but the sim has been unrealistic and if that costs me my GM chair in Philadelphia than so be it." Said Schum.

Anything can happen in the league but the fact Schum has not tried to fix the mess could lead to his ouster, not to mention his inability to take the next step. We'll closely monitor the situation in Philly in coming days.
