The other person doesn't even need a dropbox account. If you put something in your public folder you can send anybody the link.
I use a program called Hazel (Mac only -
http://www.noodlesoft.com/) to monitor a folder (which lives in the public area of my dropbox) and delete the contents every 7 days. Anytime I need to send somebody something of moderate to low importance I drop it in that folder. It's nice being able to send files of essentially any size and not having to worry about it cluttering up the dropbox.
