As with my earlier post, I find tracking various parameters to be easily the most cost effective tool anyone can integrate into their exercise regime. With lifting, this is actually quite easy. With biking, perhaps a heart rate monitor would be better. Then again, you could record: weather conditions, distance, slopes and inclines, obstacles. With this information, you could easily gauge performance laterally - the same route.
But once again, bringing a note pad into the gym while lifting is one of the single best tools I have incorporated into my workout routine. Looking back, I can't believe I went so long without it.
It isn't nearly as novel or fancy as the Nike fuel band or a heart rate monitor, but a notebook/pad can be just as effective without all the hype!
