I don't think you need to spend $300 on shoes to have them hold up for over a year. I have a pair of dress shoes that I've owned for nearly 5 years now that are still in good shape. I think I got them for around $150-$200. They're also the comfiest shoes I own. That being said, they may have been $300 shoes that were on sale. Still, it's not like it's hard to bargain hunt for good quality clothing. The average person isn't going to know/care if you're wearing the 2012 model or the 2011.
