Calgarian remembers Mexican suspect hitting on drunk women at resort

MAZATLAN, Mexico — A Calgary tourist at the Mazatlan resort where Sheila Nabb was viciously beaten says he nearly got into an altercation with the prime suspect as the accused and his wingman preyed on intoxicated female guests at the hotel.

Michael Munro, 25, who stayed at the Hotel Riu two months ago, said a slight Mexican man and a stocky Caucasian friend spent several evenings at the resort, using what appeared to be fake wristbands to get in through the beach entrance in the late evening.

“The Mexican guy would prowl on any drunk girl. Whenever a girl was stumbling, slurring her words, he would be on it immediately. He was very aggressive,” said Munro, a Calgary nurse.

The Calgarian said he’s “100 per cent sure” the Mexican man he saw at the 24-hour hotel bar is Jose Ramon Acosta Quintero, accused of attempted murder in the attack on Nabb, a 37-year-old Calgary office manager.
