If you can afford to spend more, there are way better destinations, but I think everyone should see the Mayan Riviera once in their lives, and that means more than hitting up Carlos and Charlie's and Senor Frogs in Cancun.

Agreed. If you're just going for the beaches to get whammy'd, I agree there's much better options in the Caribbean than Mexico if you can afford it (actually Cuba's pretty much just as cheap, and its illegal for beach vendors there to bug you). But Chichen Itza/Tulum/Coba, etc is the reason why my next tropical vacation will be to the Mayan Riviera. Just gotta see that stuff and nerd out on it once in my lifetime before I probably kiss Mexico goodbye for good.
Would love to go to Teotihuacan one time too, but I'm not sure how safe that whole area is right now. So much cool history in that country.
