How does that make it a joke? Have you even bothered looking at stats?

There have been 5 WTA players in last 10 years ranked #1 at year end
There have been 5 ATP players in last 10 years ranked #1 at year end

Here is a list of players who were ranked 1st without having won a GS. It really isn't that big

Players who were ranked World No. 1 without having won a Grand Slam tournament
