I think it really depends on what you want in your travel.

If all you want is to get #####faced on a beach, people are better off not going to Mexico. Resort Mexico kind of sucks, but not just because Mexico has its drug issues and its "dangerous", but because of the people it attracts and caters to. It is the cheapest of the Caribbean resort destinations because of the sheer amount there are, and its starting to show, even in the 5 star places. I've been three times, and I don't really have plans on going back in the forseeable future.

However, to say cheap booze vacations are the only reason to go is not fair. Last time I was there, I went to Tulum, Xel-Ha, and Chichen Itza. All three were absolutely amazing, and absolutely unique.

If you can afford to spend more, there are way better destinations, but I think everyone should see the Mayan Riviera once in their lives, and that means more than hitting up Carlos and Charlie's and Senor Frogs in Cancun.

Tulum was great also.
