I purchased the 2011 R3 with SRAM Rival setup for $2,200 after the discount.
I also have a 2009 Kong Zing with Ultegra on the rear and 105s everywhere else. The bike with the same components jumped up by about $500 in the 2010 model and you had to go to a Zing Deluxe. The 2009 Zing is very similar to the 2009 Haole, but $800 cheaper.
For commuting I use a 2009 KHS Urban X. I started on it because I was hit by a car and couldn't put much pressure on my shoulders and wrists, so this allowed me to begin cycling again. The panniers and high stem take most of the pressure off.
