I thought it was tremendously fun to watch. The way that the Bama D-Line and Linebackers basically toyed with Jefferson, the way that McCarron picked on one of the best defensive players in the country, the wrinkles Bama used to move the ball on first down to avoid 3rd and longs.
Alabama shut down everyone they played. Arkansas (who out-gained and out scored Oklahoma state against a common opponent in A&M), only managed 226 yards. LSU was the top scoring team in the SEC at over 38 a game prior to last night. I don't get how an offensive historic performance is automatically more entertaining in the general public's eye than a defensive one. In this era of offensive focus, a complete ass kicking like that by a defense is going to be extremely rare. Appreciate it.
I love seeing a great team or athlete perform at the highest level. That might have been the most dominant defensive performance I've ever seen.
Also, part of what kept it so interesting AND made it so impressive was that LSU was technically in the until Bama finally got that touchdown. Both teams knew that just one big play from LSU was all it would take to make it a barn burner and yet LSU could barely even get a first down and could not cross the 50 yard line!
The mission statement of the BCS is not to produce the 'most exciting game' but to get the two best teams. Prior to the game no one would argue LSU, and Alabama clearly showed last night who was better.
