Even though my life was a lot less boring when I was working in kitchens/doing sales work and considering my options for the future, there was definitely a large part of the female demographic who wanted no part of that.

No kidding.....the question of "what do you do" typically comes up within seconds of meeting women.
I swear women have asked me that before they asked what my name is lol....
Sometimes I like to avoid answering this question directly with whitty responses....especially if the date melts down into a job interview.
