And how does lane splitting impact you? You still arrive at your destination just as fast. In fact because somebody is riding a bike they take up less space and are hellping ease congestion. Lane splitting bikes take up even less space. As 4x4 says motorcycle friendly areas encourage lane splitting although I don't do it often because some idiot may try to sandwich me. Heck, they do it often enough when I'm riding quietly in my own lane. Too many frustrated junior high school hall monitors on this forum.
