Its more about all the rule changes that have occurred over the last decade...you can barely breathe on a qb or wr anymore and avoid a flag...then there is the illegal contact stuff...the whole game has been geared towards more offense through making it hard to stop guys. Its somewhat artificial IMO, but it sure has boosted points scored and yards made all over the place...except in Denver
