Their pilots, maintenance and technology upgrades on their airforce are spotty at best. The Iranian airforce is the poor brother in the Iranian armed forces structure compared to their ground forces and air defense strategies.
You can have the Mig Fulcrum, but if you poop your pants whenever you engage the afterburner you've got problems.
I read a book on Russian trainers in the middle east and the word that they used was hopeless.
