I've had good luck with LG TVs as well. I haven't checked out their 3D picture but if you like it, that should be your decision. If you decide later you want the Smart TV tech, just buy a 3D Bluray with that tech. I've heard the LG TVs with an IPS panel are good for gaming with little lag. Check around to see if you can find some reviews is the only advice I can give.
